Recently ousted Canarsie coach Mike Camardese is wearing his feelings about his old school on his sleeve.
At the Empire Challenge high school football game at Hofstra University on Tuesday, Camardese sported a brand new tattoo on his left shoulder, which reads “Once A Chief Always A Chief” around a large baby blue Native American chief – the Canarsie mascot.
“My wife thinks I’m going through a mid-life crisis,” he joked. Camardese was an administrator on coach Shawn O’Connor’s staff following his 38th year working at Canarsie, the school from which he also graduated. Camardese will take over as JV coach at Poly Prep, but said he expects to be an administrator in future Empire Challenge games.
